Pre-departure information
No cases of tropical disease have been reported in or
near La Selva, however all of the rest of the jungle
- from the moment you debark in Coca (the frontier town
closest to us) to the excursions you plan to take away
from the lodge - is undocumented. We suggest you consult
your physician on health precautions if in doubt.
The Ecuadorian currency is US Dollar. You may use US
dollars in the bar at La Selva as well as for gratuities.
Make sure you have sufficient supplies of any prescription
medicine you require. Although basic first aid will be
available, we suggest you bring along a small first-aid
kit. A flashlight is a must! (Available at the bar).
Please note that we recommend carry-on size luggage
and a maximum of twenty pounds is allowed by the local
airlines..jpg)
Departure Quito - Coca
At Quito airport a representative of La Selva will greet
you with your ticket and help you check in. The
flight typically takes 30 minutes in a commercial jet
and lands at the jungle outpost of Coca. After
a 15 minute
transfer
to a private
dock, you will take a 3-4
hour
canoe trip down the Napo river to the lodge.
An English-speaking naturalist will a accompany you.
Along the way you will receive a light boxed snack.
Arrival at La Selva
At the lodge a selection of snacks awaits you in the
bar along with a complimentary welcome cocktail and
your naturalist
guides. An excursion will be arranged as quickly as you
want. The guides will suggest the best ways to get started
at La Selva.
At La Selva
Should you feel more comfortable without valuables
in your room, make this known to the administrator
or guide.
Envelopes, which we encourage to seal yourself, are
offered upon arrival at the lodge. Although we expect
no incidents
of loss or theft, La Selva is not responsible for valuables
left in the room.
Guests are encouraged to explore the surroundings
on their own, however certain precautions must be taken:
