and Seasons
Take into account that throughout the
year the weather is hot and humid. The rainy season
is between November and April, and there are occasional
cold periods between June and August. The dry season
(April - October) is the best for ourdoors. Shining
days and a sky exceptionally clear are common in the
winter, but it can be very cold. Cold fronts or surazos
are common in the western lowlands.
What
to Bring
We recommend that you bring equipment suitable for humid,
tropical weather, for trekking through the bush, and
for traveling by boat.
Clothing:
hat or cap (for sun and rain)
2-3 cotton pants (or other suitable material for the
weather)
3 long-sleeved cotton shirts (for sun and mosquitos)
bathing suit
4 t-shirts
2 shorts (for walking)
light windbreaker
hiking boots
sandals (especially for boat trips)
4-6 pair of socks
underwear
sleepwear
rain poncho
Equipment:
Binoculars
1 large or medium sized backpack (for walks or trekking)
1 small backpack (for short excursions)
flashlight (and batteries)
camera (and film)
pocket knife
sun glasses
note book
small, lockable suitcase or duffle bag (to store items
in hotels/lodges when you’re out)
Other:
documents (passport or any other ID)
sunscreen
repellent (90-100% DEET)
vitamin B (to repel mosquitos)
water bottle
plastic bags / ziplocs (to protect against rains)
towel
medicines and vitamins
copy of vaccination record, especially yellow fever
and tetanus (malaria is not present)
To have available on the boat - rain
poncho, sunscreen, repellent, water bottle, hat, camera
(protected in a plastic bag).
