Location:
Noel Kempff is in northeastern Bolivia. The Iténez
River forms the boundary between the northern end
of the park and Brazil.
When to go:
Year-round, but the ideal season is from October to
December
Climate:
It possesses a warm and humid tropical climate. Precipitation
fluctuates between 1,600-2,500 mm (62.4-97.5 in) annually.
What to bring:
LUGGAGE
Backpack or duffle bag
Small daypack
CLOTHES
Pairs of long pants (loose, fast-drying, cotton is
ideal)
Light, long-sleeved cotton shirt
Short-sleeve cotton shirts
Pair of walking/swimming shorts
Sets of underwear (cotton is best; avoid heavy synthetics)
Pairs of socks (avoid heavy synthetics)
Pair of sneakers or thongs for use around the lodge
Waterproof folding sun hat with brim (very important
for travel along the river and on top of the plateau)
Rain poncho (if desired)
Bandanna or handkerchief
OTHERS
A pair of binoculars (these will prove to be one of
your most important pieces of equipment)
Camera, flash and film (400 speed is recommended for
use under the canopy, 100 in the savannah or on top
of the plateau)
Flashlight for night hikes and canoe rides (plus several
sets of batteries)
Pocket-knife
Cigarette lighter (even if you don’t smoke it
will come in handy – candles, etc.)
Pair of sunglasses
Passport
Bottle of insect repellent (those with 90-100% DEET
will be the most effective)
Bottle of Sun block (the sun near the equator is VERY
strong)
Water bottle (it is important to drink plenty of fluids)
Large plastic bags (to protect equipment)
Garbage bag (to transport wet clothes)
Bottle of aspirin and any other medications and vitamins
you normally use.
