Pousada do Rio Mutum is
situated in the Pantanal between
the lakes Sia Mariana and Chacorore in the region of Barão
de Melgaço within one of the most beautiful areas
of the Pantanal
in the central state of Mato Grosso (Brazil). Barão
do Melgaço is a region comprising more than 11,000
square kilometers, 97% of which remain flooded during the
rainy season, and is distinguished by
an unusual variety of landscapes integrating hills, lakes,
rivers and grassy
plains. The Pousada do Rio Mutum lies on the river Mutum,
shortly before it terminates into the two "great lakes", of which the larger
and more famous one is called Baía de Chacorore,
having a diameter of more than 15 km and is easily accessible
from
the hotel.
The Pantanal of Mato Grosso represents
an area of more than 100,000 square-kilometers of nearly
untouched wilderness and natural life. During the rainy
season (November through April) a significant part of this
area is covered by water. As a result, within this vast
green sea there remain only a few “islands” where
you find isolated Fazendas and Pousadas. The Pantanal is
above all a paradise for fish and birds and therefore for
fishermen and ornithologists or bird-watchers.
There live, however, many other kinds of animals in the
Pantanal and you may find crocodiles and jaguars, tapirs,
various species of monkeys, deers, capybaras, as well as
anacondas and anteaters, and many more.
