At a distance of 236 kilometers from
Campo Grande, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul,
the Refúgio
Ecológico
Caiman is located on a cattle farm of 53,000 hectares and
accommodates its guests in 4 comfortable lodges ("pousadas").
Each lodge has an independent infrastructure, different
architectural styles, and all equipped with air conditioners,
pools, and restaurants with homemade food.
Caiman is also an
important place for scientific research regarding
fauna and flora in the Pantanal. Presently, it is the headquarters
of Project Blue Macaw, focusing on the preservation of
this
bird threatened
with extinction. Recently an agreement with
the University for the Development of the State and
Region of the Pantanal was signed to conduct various studies
about species of bats.
 Tour programs are varied, including horseback rides,
boat rides, trail hikes and authentic photo safaris, all
guided by the "Caimaners". In Caiman it is also possible
to create tailor-made programs, as the Cattle Drive, a
traditional Pantanal activity, in which the guests conduct
a herd with about 300 heads of cattle alongside the guides
and peons.
Refúgio Ecológico Caiman
has four comfortable lodges with different architectural
designs, all integrated with the landscape. These lodges
have a total capacity of 71 people and offer the guests
to the refuge an opportunity to get to know the wonders
of the Pantanal, with rustic comfort.
Each lodge has its own independent infrastructure and
is equipped with a living room and pool. The individual
rooms in each lodge are outfitted with air conditioning,
ceiling fans, private bathrooms with hot water, and electrical
currents with 110 volts.
Along with the four lodges, the Caiman also has additional
structures used during tours. They are the retreats of
Santa Vóia and São Domingos. The infrastructures
of both include a covered area with hammocks for sleeping
as well as a bathroom and a kitchen.
On the Farm, the guests can count on an excellent support
communications, with nurse on call, telephone center,
fax, cellular phone antennas, motorized vehicles, radio
system connecting the whole farm and the hotel, and insurance
against personal and collective accidents.

Sede
Lodge 
The old house, “Sede
da Fazenda”, built in Spanish-American style, was
adapted for the new installations for 25 guests in 11
rooms. It hasn´t lost, however, its charm as the
“Casa Grande” (Big House) of a typical Pantanal
farm.
It richly illustrates the local culture because it is
near the vila and mango orchard (built where the cowboys
work with the cattle). It is easy to observe the care
of the cattle, the activities of Projeto Arara Azul (Blue
Macaw Project) and the events of the community. This hotel
has a swimming pool, dining room for 42 people, comfortable
rest area, bar, souvenir store, telephone center with
fax and is the building that houses the offices of the
Refúgio Ecológico Caiman. 
In its gardens many birds can be seen looking for shelter
and food. For the well being of our guests, aside from
the kitchen that offers a menu with typical food and international
dishes, all room have private baths, hot water, tiled
windows, ceiling fan, air conditioning and electricity
sources altered for 110 volts.
The Pousada Sede, the old house of the farm owners, is
like a family house, perfect for a rest during the adventures
that Refúgio Ecológico Caiman offers.
Baiazinha
Lodge
Built over a bay of crystal-clear water, this lodge is
9 kilometers from the Sede and is totally independent.
It is built in the shape of a bird with its wings open
and its structure mounted over stands on the shore of
the bay with transparent water. It has 6 rooms, all with
balconies with tile doors, air conditioning, ceiling fan,
private bathroom, hot water and electricity of 110 volts.
The kitchen offers a delicious menu with international
and regional dishes.
 Guests
have direct contact with the cooks and can suggest repeating
their favorite desserts. From the living room, there is
a wide view of the bay that the lodge is named after and
the vegetation that surrounds it. On the deck or from
the pool one sees a natural aquarium with various fish
and alligators, while from the observation tower we can
appreciate the Pantanal. At sunrise over the water it
is a beautiful spectacle. Nature is present with its sounds,
colors, shapes and movements for those that like the calm
of a retreat in the field, without leaving aside comfort.
Cordilheira
Lodge
 This
house with sophisticated and cozy architecture and is
located in a circular shape circling the Forest, which
means that wherever you look, you see trees and what they
house.
Fourteen kilometers away and independent from the Pousada
Sede, the Cordilheira has 6 rooms, with balcony, tiles
doors, air conditioning, ceiling fan, private bathrooms,
hot water and electricity of 110 volts. In each room,
just open the balcony to start to discover the Pantanal.
The kitchen offers international and regional dishes.
The guests can praise the cooks, who are there to serve
them in the highest style.
From the living room, the pool or the observation tower,
it is possible to see the movement of the animals in their
natural activity, during the whole day.
Sede
II Lodge
 Located
just 100 meters from the Sede, the lodge has a marvelous
view of the bay of the Sede, aside from the panoramic
deck that gives a beautiful view of nature, with the front
facing the bay with a mountain range (dense vegetation
typical of the Pantanal region) in the background..
 There
are 6 rooms, with an independent infra-structure, with
private bathrooms with hot water, air conditioning, ceiling
fan, aside from a living room with TV, pool, tiled windows
and electricity with 110 volts.
At Sede II, the guests will have better contact with
the culture of the Pantanal, since the lodge is next to
the mango orchard (planted where the workers take care
of the cattle) and the vila. It is also near the Projeto
Arara Azul (Blue Parrot Project).
